St Croix Review

Hello and welcome back, we had a good trip to St Croix the second week of May. The flight was without incident and the luggage even arrived with us.  After a short taxi ride to Christiansted we checked in with our dive operator DIVE EXPERIENCE and got our diving plans confirmed then took a short walk to  dockside and caught the water taxi to the Hotel on the Cay.  The hotel is a total package with their own restaurant, bar and beach. The water taxi is free for guests of the hotel and runs every ten minutes. There are plenty of places to eat and drink within easy walking distance of the taxi landing as is the dive boat dock.  Dive Experience does a good job and runs a pretty tight  boat.                                                                                                                                                                                            When the plane is on final approach it will pass over Fredericksted and you will be able to see the cruise boat pier, which is a very nice dive site. The boats come in on Saturday so there is no diving but every other day is good. You will find it more convenient to dive it with an operator as they can park on the pier, if you drive yourself it is necessary to unload your gear and then find a place to park outside the pier enclosure. The pier is 1526feet long and large enough to accomodate two cruise boats at one time. The shallow end is about 12 foot deep and a drop of about ten feet to the water, the deep end at the end of the pier is about 40 foot deep with a drop of about 20 feet. Exit is either by ladders along the pier or swimming into the beach. There are restrooms available at the entrance to the pier. Fredericksted is approximately 25-30 minutes from Christiansted. We rented a car from OLYMPIC CAR RENTALS and easily found our way to Fredericksted Pier. The Olympic people will take you to the airport for free when you return your car on the day of your departure, saving the cost and hassle of a taxi.
